Back in the early 2000s, my Mom (Rhea of Greece) flew from Athens to visit me in Massachusetts when my daughter was a toddler. One day she was inspired to turn on the camcorder in my (then) dance room and record her favorite dance combinations and concepts. Completely at ease in front of a camera, Rhea spoke and danced for hours at a stretch. She always has the energy to follow through on what matters to her. Then she kept going the next day, this time with finger cymbals! Concepts and dance combinations poured forth, symbolic wisdom channeled through her: a lifetime of teaching and dance experience recorded for posterity. At one point little Zoë even tried to stand up using the camera tripod for support and it jiggled a little - but not so much to make this material any less brilliant!
My sister Piper (we are the 2 biological daughters of Rhea - but she has many many spiritual / dance daughters around the world!) edited the material and together we produced the following DVDs: Rhea's Fast Combos and Graceful Arms and Hand Gestures plus Finger Cymbals Made Easy. Mom took them around the world on her various adventures and sold them at her workshops and shows. Then little by little, DVDs became dinosaurs and she herself retired. But her inspirational work and example still burns bright.
Thanks to some lovely dancers who loved those DVDs and encouraged us to bring the material into the new age, we finally digitized them. They are now available to a new generation of dancers for a very low price. All proceeds will go to support my mom's smiles and popcorn habit in retirement. It is always wonderful to know that your life of dance and pioneering ways are still being received and experienced with delight!
